1980's Recruitment Brochure
Here is a coloured recruiting brochure from the 1980's. It folded out, and listed the many support trades that were available to join back in the late 1980's. These were available from all Air Force Recruiting Offices and I picked this up in 1987 or 1988.

GSTS Booklet
Wayne Jones has kindly scanned this booklet that he was given about GSTS. I had never seen one before and many of you may not have either. I guess it was given to him by the Recruiting Officer when he joined. The book is quite dated, even for 1988/89. Note the different uniforms worn by recruits (blue overalls) and also the aerial shot of Woodbourne shows Safe Air's fleet of Bristol Freighters, which were retired when we arrived in 1989. Also seen in that photo is NZ7273, the third Boeing 727 which was flown into Woodbourne on purchase in 1981, and dismantled to provide spare parts for the other two.
The February 1987 Issue of
North and South
This magazine issue inspired many boys at the time to want to be fighter pilots in the RNZAF. It was published shortly after the film Top Gun had been released and was really a bit of a recruitment drive for the RNZAF.Cover photo
